Ready for an alternative to public middle schools?  We focus on building the knowledge and skills for kids to go out in the real world.  Not only do we work on reading, math, and science skills, but we focus on character building, and entrepreneurial skills.

The school started as I, a mother and a teacher in the public education system, saw my son falling behind.  There were a number of reason that he started to fall behind, but the bottom line was that I realized public education does not fit every child.  Public education is a one size fits all.  It works great for many kids! However, the students that struggle or are gifted tend to be overlooked.  I wanted to help my son get caught up in school, but couldn't see that happening being a full time teacher.  I decided to homeschool him, but then worried about him socially.  The wheels started turning, I started talking to other parents and the creation of Vernal Liberty Middle School came about.

Every parent is worried about their child, and wants the best for their child.  I have had parents come to me asking about pushing their child further. We can do that.  On the flip side we've had some parents worried about their child falling behind.  We are not bound by the state to keep the kids on the grade level their age assigns them.  We test the students and find the perfect level.  The students choose how hard they want to push themselves. Those that are behind, we try to get them extra help and complete 2 years of schooling in 1 year.

We've had other parents come worried about the environment in the middle schools.  We are such a small school that behaviors such as swearing, gun violence, and smoking are nonexistent, or delt with quickly bringing the parents in to help solve the problem.  We believe that children have the right to learn in an uplifting environment.

We've had other parents whose children have been bullied at their previous schools.  We do not tolerate bullying, but also clearly define what bullying is, and what it is not.  These students are still children that are in the throws of learning, not only math and reading skills, but social and emotional skills as well.  We believe in teaching social skill to all the students.  We teach them how to interact with each other.

While we do believe that learning computer skills and coding are important skills, we feel that these days students in public education spend too much time on the computer.  Our computer time is used just for that, computer learning.  From  google docs, sheets, and slides, to research and coding, your child will gain computer skills, while still learning with a book for core subjects.

Finally, with an increase of anxiety in children, we believe in a small class sizes.  Starting into our 2nd year we are looking at a 1:10 teacher-student ratio.  We hope to grow that, but never reach more than a 1:20 ratio, and hope for a 1:15 ratio.

Still not convinced?
